Collaborative Authoring Tool
for Cultural Heritage in
eXtended Reality
(CATCH-XR)

ABOUT
The Collaborative Authoring Tool for Cultural Heritage in eXtended Reality (CATCH-XR) project is an application developed for my PhD project, Multi-User Extended Reality (XR) Experience in Cultural Heritage, and aims to investigate the use of mixed reality and remote collaboration when prototyping a cultural heritage exhibition. The PhD project is a match-funded PhD between Bournemouth University, United Kingdom and Noho LTD, Republic of Ireland.
CATCH-XR is a collaborative mixed and virtual reality authoring tool that enables multiple users to meet remotely in a recreation of the host’s real-world space. It can be used to prototype and create the following:
• Visual prototypes a physical exhibition for a real-world space
• Prototype or create a virtual exhibition for a real-world or digital space
• Prototype or create a mixed reality exhibition
Within CATCH-XR, users can:
Curate their exhibition, by placing and editing various Display, Signage, and Artefact elements
Create Custom Walls to introduce virtual walls into existing spaces which can also act as surfaces for Displays or Signages.
Place Annotations in the form of digital post-it notes with an attached voice recording, allowing users to leave notes for themselves or others
Access to a Sketchbook, which draws from an external image library, enabling users to reference assets such as sketches or blueprints without needing to remove the headset.
A variety of other authoring assets, such as saving and loading, exhibition realignment, lighting editing, and viewing the exhibition without authoring elements or other users present.
CATCH-XR leverages Noho's powerful Cross Culture Platform (https://noho.ie/project/?noho=6356f7d023267) to allow users to access their own 2D assets (images and videos) and 3D assets (3D Objects) to use as Artefacts within CATCH-XR. This allows for anyone using CATCH-XR to create a museum or gallery of their own curated content!
